Kelly Rowland graced the cover of Women’s Health‘s first-ever music issue on Wednesday (Oct. 7) and announced the happy news that she’s pregnant with her second child.
On the cover, the singer proudly puts her growing baby bump on display in a sporty, high-necked white top and matching bikini bottoms while inside the issue, she opens up about getting pregnant during the pandemic.
“We had been talking about it loosely, and then COVID happened, and we were just like, ‘Let’s see what happens,'” she said of trying for a second baby with husband Tim Weatherspoon. “I was thinking, Oh my god, my fans are gonna be so disappointed…They wanted an album first, but they got a baby! And I was like, ‘I have to figure this out so they get both.’”
Despite being overjoyed that a sibling will soon be joining five-year-old son Titan, Rowland admits to feeling a bit trepidatious about sharing the news with the world during such uncertain times.
“You still want to remind people that life is important,” she said, adding, “And being able to have a child…I’m knocking at 40’s door in February. Taking care of myself means a lot to me.”
Indeed, fans have been clamoring for a new studio set from the former Destiny’s Child member for years; while she’s steadily dropped a number of one-off releases in recent years, her last full-length album was 2013’s Talk a Good Game. Rowland’s latest single — 2020’s slinky bedroom jam “Coffee” — peaked at No. 23 on Billboard’s Hot R&B Songs chart upon its release in April.
Rowland’s Women’s Health cover story is set to hit newsstands on Oct. 20. Check out her glowing pregnancy announcement below.
