September 12th is National Chocolate Milkshake Day, and singer and Le Cordon Bleu-trained chef Kelis wasted no time in finally telling us what’s in her “Milkshake” that brings all the boys to her yard.
Turns out the secret ingredient is Baileys Irish Cream Liqueur, along with some unexpected additions like candied ginger and cayenne pepper. Kelis is by no means a stranger to the kitchen: following her graduation from Le Cordon Bleu in 2009, she hosted her own show on the Cooking Channel in 2014, and released her own line of gourmet sauces and a cookbook/memoir titled My Life In a Plate: Recipes From Around the World the following year.
To bring all the boys to the yard, you will need:
- 3 oz. Baileys Original Irish Cream Liqueur
- 8 oz. ginger beer
- 4 scoops of chocolate ice cream
- 5 pieces of candied ginger
- 1/2 teaspoon of cayenne pepper
- 1 cup of ice
- honey, chili powder, cinnamon, and sugar for the rim
- ginger-infused whipped cream to top
Blend all the ingredients together at high speed and pour into your rimmed glass. Top it off with some ginger-infused whipped cream and garnish with a piece of candied ginger, and wait as the boys (and girls) slowly line up in your yard.
Happy National Chocolate Milkshake Day!
