Saweetie burst onto the hip-hop scene in 2017 with her viral hit “ICY GRL.” The track serves as a remix to Khia‘s “My Neck, My Back” and appeared on the 24-year-old’s March High Maintenance EP. On Saturday, the Sacramento rapper connected with Oakland native Kehlani for the “ICY GRL” remix.
Tsunami opens the “Bae Mix” flexing her underrated rapping ability, which she also showcased back in November on “Already Won.” “Came out like the daughter of Aaliyah and Tupac/ And I pop from the jump, ain’t nobody too shocked/ And I’m out collectin’ Rollies, you save up for G-Shocks/ Got a bag from the label, I invested and I flipped that,” she proficiently flows to set the tone.
Saweetie unleashes a fresh verse of her own about using her college degree to keep from being outsmarted in the industry. “See, I went to USC and got my college degree/ That means I’m smarter than these n—as, can’t get over on me,” Saweetie raps. “And then I went into Miami, saw some new property/ Put a down payment on a condo with a view of South Beach.”
The USC graduate closes out the tune shouting out Kehlani for joining her on the remix. “Shout-out to my girl, Kehlani, she killed that shit/ From the Bay to Sacramento, North Cal, girl, we runnin’ shit,” she states.
