UPDATE: As of June 21, Kehlani has deleted the post congratulating ex Kyrie Irving from her Instagram.
The Cleveland Cavaliers ended a 52-year drought to claim the NBA championship title on Sunday night against the Golden State Warriors at Oakland’s Oracle Arena. While Rihanna was trolling Dub Nation’s own Steph Curry and showering Cavs MVP LeBron James with Instagram love, singer Kehlani — an ex of Cavs point guard Kyrie Irving — sent a congratulatory post on Instagram to No. 2.
“Tough night for the city, but congratulations the most humble person I’ve ever met! @kyrieirving I love u! ??–??,” wrote the Oakland native.
Kehlani and Kyrie’s complicated love story played out on social media in March when online critics accused her of cheating on Irving with singer Partynextdoor (also Kehlani’s ex). The Grammy-nominated songstress then shut down the rumors on her account, alluding to a possible suicide attempt and temporarily deactivating her Instagram.
“Don’t believe the blogs you read .. No one was cheated on and I’m not a bad person… everyone is hurt and everyone is in a place of misunderstanding,” she shared at the time. “But as of today, I had no single wish to see tomorrow. But God saved me for a reason and for that… I must be grateful.. Cuz I’m not in heaven right now for a reason… On that note.. Bye Instagram.”
