The alt R&B singer, who was until recently based out of the South Korean music scene but sings in English and just made the move to Los Angeles, made her debut last year with the release of her pop-ish single “Remember” and followed that up with the chill, lo-fi vibes of “Thinkin Bout You.” Reflective in its sleek groove, the track switches between KATIE’s impassioned, occasionally desperate verses and distorted falsetto choral refrains, displaying her captivating vocal range.
“Thinkin Bout You” was released Tuesday ahead of the album via a mesmerizing music video that put forth a sense of morbid whimsy to accompany the tune. Throughout the red-and-black-enhanced film, KATIE is seen re-enacting the process of death, and perhaps rebirth, as stuffed animals, unicorns, roses and a crew of women make appearances while she croons the song, even as she gets covered in a coffin and later is seen enshrined in water.
Along with the single, LOG features five other tracks, including the remixed version of “Remember” with Ty Dolla $ign, and serves up a soundscape perfect for the most reflective moments of life and love through the lilting, introspective tunes. According to a press release, the EP was recorded in one week in Los Angeles and serves as an “intimate introduction” to the sensual, soulful singer.
