Minnesota Timberwolves star Karl-Anthony Towns is a hip-hop head. In an interview with Sporting News, the No. 1 pick in the 2015 NBA Draft credited several rappers for helping him mentally prepare for a game.
“I’m listening to Drake, Kanye, Mac Miller and Kendrick Lamar to name a few,” he said. “It gets me in the mood to handle business on the court.”
Towns also praised J.Cole‘s fourth studio effort (and Billboard 200 chart-topper) 4 Your Eyez Only. “I think J. Cole had the dopest album of the year,” he added. “His music makes me think.” Earlier this month, 4 Your Eyez Only landed Cole his fourth consecutive No. 1 album of his career.
The former NBA Rookie of the Year also chimed in on how Drake and Kanye West’s actions are often misconstrued by the media. “People clown [Drake] for not picking a team, but he’s just a sports fan and he’s hilarious,” said Towns of the Toronto rapper, who is criticized for hopping on the bandwagon for several franchises. “He’s friends with so many people and always [has] good energy.”
As for West, Towns said the media often paints a skewed picture of the “Famous” rapper. “He’s really smart and funny. Don’t let all tabloid stuff fool you,” he explained. “He’s really good people. I’ve gotten to spend a lot of time around him, and he’s way cooler than you could imagine.”
