With Kanye West’s long-awaited Jesus Is King album slated to release on Friday (Oct. 25), Zane Lowe of Beats 1 caught up with West on Thursday (Oct. 24) at his Wyoming ranch to take a deep-dive into finishing Jesus Is King, reconnecting with his faith, the Adidas YEEZY empire, and much more over the course of more than two hours.
The interview doesn’t find Kanye breaking down any of the tracks on the album; rather, he touches on other life matters occupying his headspace at the moment, which obviously bleeds through in his music.
“Now that I’m in service to Christ, my job is to spread the gospel, to let people know what Jesus has done for me,” West tells Lowe. “I’ve spread a lot of things. There was a time I was letting you know what high fashion had done for me, I was letting you know what the Hennessey had done for me, but now I’m letting you know what Jesus has done for me, and in that I’m no longer a slave, I’m a son now, a son of God. I’m free.”
After bringing the Jesus Is King Experience to Inglewood’s The Forum, Yeezy is also set to debut his IMAX film Thursday night (Oct. 24) at hundreds of movie theaters around the world. There is also a documentary in the works, which will be released at a later date.
