In the midst of his latest Tweetstorm, Kanye West candidly addressed the state of his mental health and how being off medication has impacted his songwriting.
In recent days, West has used Twitter to discuss his ongoing issues with Drake. But on Saturday morning (Dec. 15), the rapper and fashion designer veered into his struggles with being bipolar and how the mental disorder has affected his music.
“I’m loving the new music I’ve been working on. 6 months off meds I can feel me again. Remember when dark fantasy came out I used to tweet a storm also,” West wrote.
The tweet references his critically acclaimed 2010 album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, which produced hits such as “Power,” “Runaway,” and “All the Lights.”
“You don’t make runaway on medication Even alcohol is and addictive substance called spirits that actually block our earthly connection to our spirit when we drown ourselves in it,” he wrote.
Over the past year, West has opened up about his bipolar disorder and the impact it has had on his career and family life. On Saturday, he shared his desires to speak more candidly to the press about mental disorders in hopes to educate the public.
“I’ve been trying to do a serious interview speaking on mental health but it seems as though all members of press are afraid to speak to someone who has been diagnosed but is still everyone’s favorite super hero,” he wrote.

All of this foolishness weighed on my mental health so @ArianaGrande you know I got love for you but until you’re ready to really make sure everyone’s ok don’t use me or this moment to promote a song

No one would ever choose to end up in a mental hospital and diagnosed with a mental disorder but god chose me to publicly go through this journey and it is beautiful

I am able to experience first hand how people who have mental health issues get written off by society. Don’t listen to him cause he’s crazy. He’s washed cause he’s crazy etc…
