This past weekend, Judge Jeanine Pirro took aim at the critically acclaimed play Hamilton on her Fox News show Justice, for actor Brandon Victor Dixon giving Vice-President Elect Mike Pence an impromptu on-stage speech after the cast’s Friday night performance (Nov. 18). Pence, who was in attendance with his family, became the target of Dixon’s remarks.
“We, sir — we — are the diverse America who are alarmed and anxious that your new administration will not protect us, our planet, our children, our parents, or defend us and uphold our inalienable rights,” said Dixon. “We truly hope that this show has inspired you to uphold our American values and to work on behalf of all of us.”
The comments didn’t sit well with Trump himself or his supporters, and added her voice to the roar of Hamilton criticism following the cast’s address to Pence.
“The treatment of Vice President-elect Mike Pence last night in New York City — where he was booed on the way into the play Hamilton and lectured from the stage on his way out — was both outrageous and embarrassing,” said Pirro. She continued criticizing the cast and the people in attendance for allowing “reverse racism” to be on display while Pence was spending quality time with his family. “What happened in that theater — one block from here — was out-and-out reverse racism, and tee’d up hate for a man who has done nothing to deserve this inappropriate and disgusting behavior,” she added.
After explaining how Trump and Pence won the presidential election fair and square two weeks ago, she punctuated her rant with the zinger: “Last night violates everything you say you stand for. That big-tent, inclusive, broad-minded acceptance of everyone, even people who don’t look or act like you. What happened to your old ‘love trumps hate’ line? You’re all damn hypocrites!”
