British songbird Jorja Smith bounded onto the scene with the infectious, soulful “Blue Lights” back in 2016, before landing on the radars of hip-hop heavyweights Drake and Kendrick Lamar. In her official U.S. late-night show debut, Jorja took a trip to Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Monday night (April 16) to bring “Blue Lights” to a new stage and audience, on the heels of her performance at Coachella this past weekend.
Taking center stage, Jorja dazzled under appropriately neon blue lights as she delivered the introspective track, which touches on street violence and stereotypes. Accompanied on stage by her band, who lays down ambient synths and drums Jorja easily glides overs throughout her performance.
In her sweet, smoky voice, Jorja sings, “Don’t you run when you hear the sirens coming/ When you hear the sirens coming/ You better not run ’cause the sirens not coming for you/ What have you done?”
Jorja has had a major 2018 so far, having notched a spot on Kendrick Lamar’s Black Panther: The Album with “I Am” and making her Coachella debut just before her Kimmel appearance. The singer will head on tour with fellow UK singer Ama Lou this April and hit major US cities before heading back home to wrap up the tour.
