
Joey Bada$$ has been living up to his name while on tour Down Under. The rapper has been charged with assault after allegedly breaking a security guard’s nose at Falls Festival over the weekend, according to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.
The Brooklyn teenager (real name Jo-Vaughn Virginie Scott) was reportedly stopped and had his credentials checked by a security guard just before he was due to go on stage Friday night. Police say the rapper then punched the security guard, causing facial injuries that required a trip to hospital.

After he finished his show, Bada$$ was arrested and taken to Byron Bay police station, where he spent the night in custody. Bada$$ was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and appeared the following day in Lismore Local Court. He was granted bail and was ordered to face court again on March 19.

The hip hop scene took notice when Bada$$ released his debut mixtape, 1999 in 2012. The following year, he cracked Billboard’s 21 Under 21 list. The artist’s debut studio album B4.DA.$$, is tipped for release Jan. 20, on what will be the artist’s 20th birthday. The first single, “Big Dusty,” dropped in August and another new track, “On & On,” arrived on New Year’s Eve
Bada$$ will stay on Down Under for at least another week. His touring schedule includes dates in Melbourne, Wellington and Auckland.
