Jill Scott, Tyrese, Monica, Anthony Hamilton and Jazmine Sullivan are among the first wave of talent confirmed for BET Networks’ Soul Train Weekend 2016. The four-day series of events — the lead-in to the 2016 Soul Train Awards — will be held at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas from Nov. 3-6.
Monica, Sullivan and Yuna will kick off the weekend with Thursday’s (Nov. 3) “Acoustically Speaking” concert at the House of Blues at Mandalay Bay. The next evening will see Scott, Tyrese, Hamilton and Tish Hyman performing at the “Soul Train Music Festival” show at the Mandalay Bay Events Center. Saturday’s “Soul Train Day Party” at the resort’s Daylight Beach Club will feature Bell Biv DeVoe and Kid Capri. That evening, comedians Cedric “The Entertainer,” Eddie Griffin, D.L. Hughley, George Lopez and Charlie Murphy will hold court during “The Comedy Get Down” at the Mandalay Bay Events Center.
The 2016 Soul Train Awards on Sunday, being staged again at the Orleans Arena, will cap the weekend festivities. Last year’s big winners were The Weeknd, the Mark Ronson/Bruno Mars hit “Uptown Funk” and Jidenna. Erykah Badu will be returning as a producer on the awards show as well, writing show content and live comedy sketches.
Additional events and talent for Soul Train Weekend 2016 and the Soul Train Awards will be announced in the coming weeks. Four-day and general tickets for all events throughout Soul Train Weekend will go on sale Sept. 30. More information can be found at Soultrainweekend.com.
