Singer/actress Jill Scott adds another acting role to her list of credits with the character Lady Eve, featured in the forthcoming drama series Black Lightning. Based on DC characters, The CW series from Warner Bros. Television will debut in mid-season 2018.
Black Lightning stars Cress Williams (Grey’s Anatomy, Living Single) as charter high school principal Jefferson Pierce. Gifted with the superhuman power to harness and control electricity, he finds himself stepping back into his alias as masked vigilante Black Lightning to battle local gang The One Hundred. As Lady Eve, Scott doubles as a funeral parlor owner and the liaison between the villainous Tobias Whale (portrayed by Marvin “Krondon” Jones III) and a secret crew of corrupt leaders. She ultimately becomes an adversary to Black Lightning.
In a press release announcing Scott’s addition to the Black Lightning cast, showrunner and executive producer Salim Akil said, “Jill is an amazing artist who can embody any character and give them an authentic voice that is both nuanced and richly complex.”
Scott, a four-time Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter, has performed on Broadway and starred in films such as Why Did I Get Married?, The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency and Steel Magnolias. Her television series credits include guest roles on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and Girlfriends. Scott is represented by ICM Partners and Maverick Management.
Black Lightning is from Berlanti Productions and Akil Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television. Serving as the series’ executive producers are Greg Berlanti (Arrow, Supergirl), Salim Akil and Mara Brock Akil (Being Mary Jane, The Game) and Sarah Schechter (Arrow, Supergirl). The Black Lightning character was created by Tony Isabella with Trevor Von Eeden.
