After nabbing Daniel Caesar for her euphonious remix of “Figures,” songbird Jessie Reyez is back today with her new song “Body Count.”
Reyez — who has quickly gained traction for her unapologetic candor on records — once again exudes a high-level of honesty on her latest outing. “Body Count” finds her soulfully warbling about women embracing their sexuality rather than being timid. “You don’t gotta tell me ’bout your body count /I don’t gotta know your ex’s nam /’Cause if it just so happens that you turn around and ask me /I think you might feel some type of way,” she belts.
Later, the precocious songwriter shows flashes of wit and humor with one-liners like, “So maybe you should put a rubber on your heart before it breaks” and “I don’t hold any anger, I just swerve, Hallelujah.”
