Beyond running his Roc Nation empire, Jay Z has been slowly inching his way back into rapping.
With the hip-hop mogul dropping verses on recent tracks like Frank Ocean‘s “Biking” with Tyler, The Creator and DJ Khaled‘s “Shining” with Beyonce (who is also expecting twins with the rapper), a Hov album could be within reach.
Swizz Beatz then took to Instagram early Friday morning (May 5) to share a photo of him and Jay Z with the caption, “They don’t even know what’s about to happen ———- Album ModeZone??,” suggesting that the Brooklyn Boy could be getting busy in the booth.
Other producers have told Billboard that they were in the studio with Jay Z including Zaytoven and Mike Will Made-It. “So when Jay Z invited me to his house and told me what type of beats he wanted, it opened my mind up to be like, ‘My music is reaching everybody and touching people in a certain way.’ There’s a distinct something when they hear my music,” Zay explained earlier this year. “I feel like [the collaboration] is gonna be for both of [our projects]. I know it’s going to be a trophy for me.”
As for Swizz Beatz, the superproducer has collaborated with Jay frequently in the past for songs like “Money, Cash, Hoes” and “On To The Next One.”
Jay Z’s last album, 2013’s Magna Carta Holy Grail, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.
Billboard has reached out to Jay Z’s rep for comment.
