Jay-Z continues to make a name for himself in the film world. For his next venture, Hov has come onboard to produce Netflix’s upcoming crime movie The Harder They Fall, according to a Variety report Wednesday (July 24).
The film is set to star Jonathan Majors (The Last Black Man in San Francisco) and will be the directorial debut of Jeymes Samuel, who previously worked alongside Jay-Z when the duo collaborated on The Great Gatsby soundtrack back in 2013.
Variety says Samuel’s script “follows outlaw Nat Love, who discovers that the man who killed his parents two decades ago is being released from prison and decides to reunite with his gang to track his enemy down and seek his revenge.” James Lassiter and Lawrence Bender are also slated to contribute on the production side.
Jay has stayed busy diversifying his portfolio by executive producing several projects in the past couple of years, including the poignant Kalief Browder Story, Rest in Power: The Trayvon Martin Story, and the upcoming Free Meek docuseries with Amazon.
Billboard has reached out to Jay-Z’s reps for confirmation.
