The Marina Abramovi? Institute has apologized to Jay Z as well as Marina Abramovi?, following an apparent misunderstanding that fueled art and hip-hop headlines Tuesday.

In an interview with Brazilian art magazine Spike, performance and conceptual artist Abramovi? suggested she was used in her 2013 collaboration with Jay Z when she assisted him in creating his an homage to her 2010 work The Artist Is Present for his own “Picasso Baby” video.
Abramovi? told Spike she was unhappy with how things played out, “since he adapted my work only under one condition: that he would help my institute. Which he didn’t. Then he just completely used me. And that wasn’t fair.”

But in an apology issued by Abramovi?’s institute Wednesday, it is revealed that Jay Z did actually make a contribution — one reported to be substantial.
The New York Times‘ Joe Coscarelli posted an image of the Marina Abramovic Institute’s statement to Twitter that explains Abramovi? had not been informed of the donation previously.
