Ja Rule wasn’t having the best of luck during his performance at a ’90s-themed halftime show at the Milwaukee Bucks game Saturday night (Feb. 23).
After taking the stage, the Queens rapper — who was recently under fire after being highlighted in two documentaries about the failed Fyre Festival — awkwardly told the crowd that he didn’t really consider himself a ’90s artist.
“They said this was ’90s night, so they brought out a 2000s artist,” he joked. “But my album came out in ’99 so I guess that counts.”
Things only went downhill from there. Ja then prompted the DJ to being the show, but was met with technical difficulties that delayed the start. “Are we ready?” the rapper asked twice. “I guess we’re not.”
When the music finally started, Ja and his dancers only had about three-and-a-half minutes to perform before the end of halftime. Twitter began to light up when Bucks players, including star Giannis Antetokounmpo, began taking warm-up shots nearby.
“There’s a good 3.5 minutes left of halftime, Ja Rule is mid-song and Giannis is already out shooting,” one Twitter user observed.
After the show, Ja Rule took to social media to defend himself.
“Y’all really be on my dick… let’s be CLEAR my sound was fucked up at first and didn’t come on when it was supposed to but I rocked that bitch… thanks for the love Milwaukee!!! Great win my streak continues… lol.”
