A day after performing his first single, “Power Trip,” alongside Miguel at Hot 97’s Summer Jam XX, J. Cole releases his second, “Crooked Smile.”
The “Born Sinner” track is an uplifting ode to all those who continue to hold their heads up, especially women, and the importance of inner beauty. “Killin’ yourself to find a man that’ll kill for you/ You wake up, put make up on/ Stare in the mirror/ But it’s clear that you can’t face what’s wrong/ No need to fix what God already put his paintbrush on,” he raps.
TLC’s T-Boz and Chilli come in on the hook singing, “On my way, on my way, on my way down/ On my way, on my way, on my way down/ You’re the one that was trying to keep me way down/ Like the sun now you know I’d find my way back ’round.”
The subject of self-love on “Crooked Smile” goes hand-in-hand with TLC’s “Fanmail” song, “Unpretty.”
J. Cole will embark on a tour in support of his sophomore album due June 18. Tickets for his North American tour, “Dollar & A Dream,” presented by D’ussé, will go for $1.00 USD.
