Over the weekend (May 5), J. Cole took over JMBLYA Fest with an energetic headlining set but had to press pause on his performance because of a chant from the boisterous crowd that the 33-year-old didn’t agree with. Diehard fans began shouting “Fuck Lil Pump” together in the midst of Cole running through KOD standout track “1985” which he quickly brought to a halt in disapproval.
“Nah, don’t do that,” the “ATM” rapper muttered attempting to quiet down the crowd. “Don’t do that. Don’t say that.” Chants of “Fuck 6ix9ine” were also sprinkled in by a few in attendance. The North Carolina native continued to finish off another verse of “1985” a cappella.
This comes on the heels of Cole explaining to Vulture that the bristling track doesn’t take aim at a singular individual but rather it’s an if “the shoe fits” type of situation. He also later went on to name a few rappers he’s enjoying from the younger generation such as Lil Baby, XXXTentacion, and Trippie Redd, among others.
During a recent Smokepurpp show (April 21) in North Carolina, fans serenaded the Greensboro venue with “Fuck J. Cole” chants to which the 20-year-old rapper didn’t even try to condemn.
