When ItsTheReal, consisting of Eric and Jeff Rosenthal, suggested picking Pop Editor, Jason Lipshutz, and myself, on a zip car to preview their first of two-part mixtape series, “Urbane Outfitters Vol. 1,” we couldn’t resist.
The Rosenthals, being the hip-hop sketch comedians they are, thought it’d be funny to play off the time Consequence and his manager drove me around his BMW to listen to his mixtape, “Movies On Demand 3,” unbeknownst to me until minutes before they were downstairs.
The bad news is that Jason couldn’t make it. The good (and selfish) news is that I got to laugh for close to 30-minutes while riding around with Jeff and Eric in a rented-by-the-hour BMW zip car.
The DJ Drama hosted 7-song effort features the brothers taking off their cool when spitting humorous verses of hip-hop’s every-day absurdities. “Urbane Outfitters” features Bun B, Maino, Hannibal Buress, Freeway and Lil Jon and production by Greg Mayo and Tha Bizness.
“I don’t say I’m out of work, I say I’m non-profit/ My uncle Sam spots me, direct deposit/Lifestyles of has-beens, and never will-bes/I may not be rich, but I’m filthy/ Struttin’ like I showered, don’t be mad at me/ I hit the grocery store, doors opened automatically/ My women in linen, I take them fine dining/ Eating lobster inthe back, dumpster diving,” Eric raps on “Funemployment.”
