ILoveMakonnen has been assaulted on stage while performing his breakout hit “Tuesday.”
The Atlanta rapper was performing the track in New York’s SOBs club on Tuesday (naturally), when he took a punch from a member of the audience.
The artist (real name Makonnen Sheran) shared footage on Twitter of the seemingly unprovoked attack. Early in the clip, a clubber in a grey hoodie strolls up to the stage to offer the artist what appears to be a friendly hand. The gesture quickly turns to violence as Makonnen is yanked to his feet, and takes a blow to the back of his neck. ILoveMakonnen ultimately won the matchup when he posted a string of positive Tweets in the hours after the incident.

The nightclub assault aside, it’s been a pretty good week for ILoveMakonnen. He’s just released the official video for “Tuesday,” which Drake-reworked with an additional verse back in August (the original version was “Club Goin Up On a Tuesday”). The 25-year-old has signed with October’s Very Own, the label spearheaded by Drake. Drizzy appears in the new video along with a posse of OVO Sound labelmates.
