

Esteemed beatsmith !llmind has manned the boards for hip-hop’s elite like Timbaland, Drake and 50 Cent. Now, the New Jersey rep is taking his sick beats back to the days of disco for his new EP Four Three Two, premiering exclusively on Billboard.

“Four Three Two was inspired by the Studio 54 movement that happened before I was born (circa ’77 to ’82),” he tells Billboard over e-mail. “People felt free. No worries and no shame or being misjudged. It was an era where people started to completely let go of what was considered ‘right’ or ‘wrong’.”

He also recalled the sounds of his household. “Growing up, my parents played a lot of soul, funk and disco music. This project is a culmination of those influences, with my own sort of twist to them. It’s an audio-painting of where burlesque meets funk/dance.”
