After the absolute spectacle that was her video for “Sally Walker,” fans of Iggy Azalea have been anxiously wondering if she would be able to keep that momentum up for a new video. Now, they have their answer — and it’s a resounding yes.
On Friday (May 3), Azalea released the wild video for her new single “Started,” a club banger about making your way to success after having nothing (the track borrows the Drake line “started from the bottom,” but twists it by adding “and now I’m rich.”). The visual sees one way of accomplishing that, with Azalea marrying a rich old man for his money.
As the video continues, Azalea slowly starts to grow tired of her new beau and their relationship. That is, until another version of herself and drag superstar Trixie Mattel appear in an infomercial for a poison cake mix to kill a sugar daddy. “If your name’s in his will and you want your bread/ Call 1-833-DADDYS-DEAD,” the pair sing.
After dispatching her lover, Azalea invites over her realtor friend, current Drag Race star Vanessa Vanjie Mateo (who also appeared in the “Sally Walker” video), to take a look at the mansion that now belongs to her. “Now help me kill mines,” Vanjie squeals.
The new song is Azalea’s second single off of her hotly-anticipated sophomore album In My Defense, which is due out via EMPIRE later this year.
