
Iggy Azalea has canceled her performance at this weekend’s Pittsburgh Pride following criticisms from some of the city’s LGBTQIA community over past Tweets, criticized as homophobic and racist.

Azalea announced the news Monday on Twitter, telling her fans, “This has been a difficult decision as I truly support the event and LGBTQIA communities, however I feel my participation at this point would only serve to further distract from the true purpose of the event.”

The anti-Azalea movement included Pittsburgh City Council President Bruce Kraus and led to a number of groups canceling their appearances at the June 14 event. Groups have even been planning alternative protest events during Azalea’s schedule performance.

The “Fancy” rapper has brought on allegations of homophobia with since-deleted (but still archived) tweets such as “When guys whisper in each others ears I always think its kinda homo” and “wondered why my butt felt like it was about to grow legs, flip me off & walk away. then I remembered i played soccer yestrdy w 5 dyke bitches.”
Azalea recently canceled her Great Escape Tour due to a “creative change of heart,” but had kept Pittsburgh Pride and a number of other spot shows on the books.
