If you had told a 22-year-old O’Shea Jackson that one day he’d be enshrined on the Hollywood Walk of Fame as Ice Cube among such fellow luminaries as Paula Abdul, W.C. Fields, Casey Kasem and Gwyneth Paltrow he might have uttered… something you he couldn’t have said in Are We There Yet?
But the rapper/actor was all smiles on Monday (June 12) when friends and family — including former N.W.A bandmate Dr. Dre — joined him for a celebration of his life in entertainment. “You know, you don’t get here by yourself and when you’re coming up doing music, movies, just trying to be creative, you never figure you’ll be on the Hollywood Walk of Fame one day,” he said. “So today is not really about Ice Cube, it’s about all the people who helped me get here.”

The 47-year-old Fist Fight star began his career at 16, when he sold his first song to future N.W.A member Eazy-E, rising to fame as a member of the pioneering West Coast hardcore rap group before breaking solo in 1989. He launched his acting career in 1991 with a starring turn in John Singleton’s breakout Boyz n the Hood, going on to star and appear in more than two dozen other films, including the popular Friday, Barbershop and 21 Jump Street series.
The rapper/actor got plenty of props from some other stars on the honor:
