Houston rapper WhyJae is cooking up new heat under the moniker Lil Rarri for his new project The Lil’ Rarri EP.
“With this Lil Rarri project, I wanted to really separate Lil Rarri from WhyJae,” he tells Billboard over email. “I really wanted to just have fun with the music like I used to do when I first started rapping as a kid. It was fun back then. Growing up, I ended thinking, ‘Man I gotta be saying some high vocabulary shit in my raps to make it sound like I’m just the most lyrical rapper in the game and that I AM HIP HOP.'”
Then Rarri experienced a revelation. “But as I got further in the game, and the years went on, shit started changing and becoming clearer that you can make what you want to make, and that as long as it makes you happy, then it shouldn’t matter. Well the Lil Rarri EP makes me happy.”
After opening sold-out shows for fire-spitters like Dom Kennedy, Tory Lanez, A$AP Ferg and Joey Bada$$, the H-town rep has much to smile about. He racked up over a million plays on SoundCloud with his trap-drenched catalog, including his 2014 debut mixtape Timeless and the recently released 30MLFTI ‘tape. His eight-track Lil Rarri EP soundtracks the hustle, whether clout is the motivation (“Glo”) or jet-setting across the nation (“Season”).
