Will Drake’s next album include a collaboration with Beyonce? Apparently so.
In an interview with Four Pins, the Canadian rapper has revealed he’s making slow progress on his next album Views from the 6, which is due out later this year and was announced last July. So far he’s recorded just two songs that he’s happy with. The upshot of that is, one of those new tracks will feature Mrs Carter.
The Drake feature is a meaty one at more than 4,200 words. The writer caught the artist in some nervous downtime ahead of his Coachella show this past weekend, which became a global talking point when Drake locked lips with Madonna on stage.
Drake’s Surprise Album Debuts at No. 1 on Billboard 200
The hip-hopper’s fans will want to study this particular paragraph: “He only has two songs finished that he likes. One is a collaboration with Beyoncé that he recorded a while ago. The other is a song that he expects to inspire a paradigm shift. His days of releasing lay-up bangers that everyone loves right away are over. For now.”
On his next album, he’s said to be keen to “shock” his listeners and its tone and new direction is compared with Kanye West’s 808s & Heartbreak. “Drake agrees and, as if to reinforce that notion, he tells me that Boi-1da said he needs to listen to the non-Beyoncé song a few more times before he can decide whether it’s good or not,” writes Ernest Baker. “It appears that Drake is ready to deviate from his winning formula and get a little weird.”
