On the heels of releasing the third installment of his No Friends EP in June, HappyBirthdayCalvin is back with some new music to close out another summer week. The infectious “Alone” premieres with Billboard on Friday (Aug. 15).
Backed by a guitar-laden instrumental, the Chicago native vulnerably bares his soul on the loner anthem, which preaches undertones of self-love. Tender background vocals from Bjrnck help listeners revel in Calvin’s pain.
“I’ve been waiting to release this song for a while now, because I know everyone can relate to it,” he tells Billboard. “The time has come.”
“LPeezy (ATS Label Owner) and I were in the studio and I was freestyling, and I just started rapping the hook, ‘I’m not lonely baby, I’m just alone, live fast die young,’” the ATS Records signee adds of the track’s organic formation. “And then LPeezy came up with the second half, ‘Nah Nah Nah Nah.’ And boom there it was.”
