The Brooklyn-based artist Govales is at ease in multiple worlds — music and film, R&B and rock.
Govales proves so on his new song “Doors To Nowhere,” premiered on Billboard. The song is from his forthcoming album Lovetron, and also appears in Spike Lee’s latest movie, Da Sweet Blood Of Jesus.
Listen to “Doors To Nowhere” below. It’s also available for a free download at Govales’ official site.
Govales’ previous single “Go For The Kill” fit into the modern R&B climate, combining layered rushes of smooth vocals and an insistent hip-hop beat. “Doors To Nowhere” moves in a different direction, relying on a firm rock stomp, distorted guitar, and hammering piano.
He tells Billboard that the track “was written to personify the constant inner battle between balancing the material and spiritual worlds while living in what we call ‘real life.'”
When Spike Lee chose to fund his new film on Kickstarter, he also put out a call on social media for songs for the soundtrack. The director was instantly drawn to “Doors To Nowhere.” “I loved the song right away and I knew right away what scene it would work for. Bravo,” Spike Lee said.
Da Sweet Blood Of Jesus hits theaters February 13, but it’s available today, Jan. 14, on Vimeo on Demand.
