During French Montana‘s visit to The Daily Show, host Trevor Noah and the MC came up with a ground-breaking new concept: What if rappers start bragging about how much money they donate to charity?
On Monday’s (July 24) episode of the show, the two discuss how Montana’s $100,000 donation to a medical facility in Africa inspired his collaborator The Weeknd to do the same.
“Is this going to be the new thing in hip-hop?” Noah asks. “Guys are going to be bragging — instead of bottles in the club — ‘I got a hospital in Africa.’ You could make it a thing!”
“I hope so — definitely,” Montana responds.
He says flying 30 hours to Uganda to film the video was “the best decision I ever made of my career.”
In the interview, Montana also says he listened to Tupac before moving to the U.S. from Morocco at 13 years old — before he could speak English. “Tupac had a gift of speaking to Africans; he spoke to everybody who doesn’t speak English,” he says.
Montana also shares his candid thoughts on “Unforgettable” charting at No. 5 on this week’s Billboard Hot 100. His second studio album, Jungle Rules, debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 albums chart for the week ending July 20.
