French Montana is keeping Chinx‘s legacy alive, two years after the Queens rapper’s death. On Wednesday (May 17), Montana paid tribute to his longtime friend and former Coke Boys labelmate in a series of Instagram posts.
The first post is a video montage of Chinx rapping in the studio with clips of the two friends performing spliced in as Montana’s 2013 song “Coke Boys” plays in the background. “Legend before your time,” he captioned the video. “miss u king — this one of them days.”
Montana followed up with a screenshot of a 2015 Instagram post from Chinx that stated, “Me and my bro both came from nothing… All we had was dreams to get rich and do rite”, a post Montana says he always turns to “when I’m down and need motivation to keep pushing.”
Chinx died on May 17, 2015, at the age of 31 after being shot in a drive-by shooting while at a stoplight in Briarwood, Queens, following a performance in Brooklyn earlier that night.
“we miss u my brother #FOREVERCHINX,” Montana continued. “life is short enjoy it with people you love.”
