This week’s offering from Empire titled “Of Family Secrets” showed a softer side of Lucious Lyon (for about five minutes), Hakeem choosing love above all else, and the return of Boo Boo Kitty.

1. In Loving Memory Of Camilla
The episode begins with a funeral. After Camilla’s cliff-hanger death last go-round, the tribute ceremony was (somewhat) fitting to Naomi Campbell’s character with a few words from Hakeem and Cookie talking trash.

2. Lucious’ Blast from the Past
It was finally revealed that Lucious’ mother (portrayed by songstress and Chasing Destiny creator Kelly Rowland) not only tried to drown him during a psychotic break, but she attempted to commit suicide right in front of him when he was a child. He reveals all of this in a “Boom Boom Boom Boom” music video that Cookie unveils at her surprise birthday party which prompts Andre to question if his grandmother is bipolar. Lucious then calls his mother a nut job and his son Dre crazy. The latter takes the high road and walks away while Cookie’s jaw is left hanging on the floor.

3. Hakeem Puts a Ring on it
Right after the family drama that went down at Cookie’s birthday party-turned-nightmare, Hakeem finds Laura, drops to one knee and proposes to her. His former flame, Tiana, witnesses it all go down.

4. Boo Boo Makes a Fool Out of Rhonda
While Hakeem ran to Laura after his family fall out, Rhonda called up Boo Boo Kitty and Luscious’s ex/Hakeem’s baby mama came to the rescue. She said that after years of taking care of Dre, she needs a minute to take care of herself, but we are left to wonder if Anika is more of a foe than a friend since we still don’t know who pushed Rhonda down the steps causing her to lose her baby.

5. Freda Gatz’s Father’s Identity is Revealed
Female MC Freda Gatz reveals that her father in the now deceased gangster (and Cookie and Lucious’ former boss) Frank Gatz, causing Cookie to be at a loss for words (a rare occurrence). Now, the question remains: What won’t Lucious do?
