After facing heavy criticism, Eminem finally addressed the negative response to his latest album Revival. The Shady Records leader released a turbulent remix of the bass-heavy track “Chloraseptic” yesterday (Jan. 8), tweeting the artwork and a link to the track. The remix also features a verse from 2 Chainz, perhaps the very same one that didn’t make the album.
The original version of the trap-infused track found Slim Shady rapping in a calm, settled flow, occasionally playing with his vocals, changing his accent. The remix opens with 2 Chainz coolly flowing over the booming 808 bass, followed by a new verse from Phresher, who was only given space to rap the hook in the original record. The song’s main course sees a fired-up Eminem rising to a near scream before quickly switching to a conversational tone, holding no words back as he name drops (“Rap mature, why can’t you be like Macklemore? Huh?”) and paints vivid violent pictures in classic Eminem fashion.
The Detroit rapper left no criticism untouched, replying to the lackluster reception to the album’s initial single “Walk On Water” featuring Beyoncé, “Not as raw as I was, ‘Walk on Water’ sucks Bitch, suck my dick,” he retorts. Em also responded to fans judging the album’s heavy pop presence on the track list, “Y’all saw the track list and had a fit ‘fore you heard it/ So you formed your verdict while you sat with your arms crossed/ Did your little reaction videos and talked over songs.”
Shady also aims words at the critique of his volatile BET awards freestyle aimed at President Trump while also taking jabs at the president, “Then I took a stand, went at Tan-Face, and practically cut my mothafuckin’ fan base in half and still outsold you. You just called my shit trash, thank God, I rap better when the odds are stacked.”
Fans took to Twitter to showcase their excitement of the remix, claiming that the old Shady has returned. Check Tweets out below.
