Drake has scored yet another milestone: He is RIAA’s new top certified digital singles artist, having moved 142 million digital singles to date.
One equivalent song unit, as recognized by the RIAA, is equal to: one digital song sale, or 150 on-demand audio and/or video streams. The RIAA revamped its Gold & Platinum Awards Program on Feb. 1, 2016, growing from a pure sales certification process to one that includes tracks and streams.
Meanwhile, Internet frenzy continues over Friday’s release (June 29) of Drake’s hotly anticipated double-disc album Scorpion — which is already certified platinum. (One equivalent album unit, as recognized by the RIAA, is equal to: one album sale, 10 tracks sold from an album, or 1,500 on-demand audio and/or video streams from an album.) Drake also landed his record-extending 64th top 10 on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart (dated June 30) with the track “I’m Upset.”
