At the top of 2019, Drake hinted at possibly inking a residency during a performance at XS Nightclub. Rolling Stone confirmed Thursday (Feb. 28) that the 6 God will have five shows between 2019 and 2020 as part of his new partnership deal with the Wynn, which won’t be billed as a traditional residency.
“A partnership will be the right word [for this relationship] because this isn’t just about performing at the venue. This is more about how we bring Drake into the concept of Wynn Las Vegas,” nightclub EVP Alex Cordova told Rolling Stone. “We’re looking at all possible environments within the hotel and working with Drake and Drake’s team to see exactly how he can lend assistance in curating these experiences.”
The first two Vegas shows are slated for when Drake returns from his Assassination Vacation Tour in Europe, on May 4 and May 20. “When I came back, I thought it’d be back at T-Mobile Arena, but I’ll be back here at XS all year. You’ll have a lot of chances to see me,” Drizzy told the XS crowd back in January.
Even after dominating an arena tour, Drake still enjoys performing in an intimate setting, as the nightclub only boasts a capacity of 4,800. “Whether it’s a stadium, an arena or a space like XS, Drake loves to perform. My job is to give him different opportunities to do what he loves,” Drake’s manager Adel Nur concluded.
