If Drake needed any further assurance that his return to music is hotly anticipated, breaking the record for the most-streamed song in a single day with his newly released single “God’s Plan” is just the confidence boost he needs.
Drake has officially broken Spotify’s U.S. record for most single-day streams with “God’s Plan,” which was released overnight on Friday. “We can confirm ‘God’s Plan’ by Drake now holds the US record as the most streamed track in a single day on Spotify,” a rep for the streaming service told Billboard on Wednesday (Jan. 24). Taylor Swift previously held the record with Reputation lead single “Look What You Made Me Do.”
Drizzy celebrated his latest feat by posting a photo Tuesday on Instagram of him and LeBron James, who also broke his own record by entering the 30,000-point club after his game against the San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday night. “Congrats King. Samesies,” the Toronto rapper wrote, with their two records side by side.
“God’s Plan” was released Friday night along with another new track, “Diplomatic Immunity,” both from his Scary Hours project.
The More Life rapper is no stranger to breaking Spotify records: Drake held the No. 1 spot on Spotify’s most-streamed artist chart for two consecutive years (2015, 2016) and fell to the No. 2 spot in 2017 when Ed Sheeran ended his reign.
