A couple months back, DJ Mustard dropped his hit single “Don’t Hurt Me,” which featured Nicki Minaj and Jeremih. Now the artist is adding some color to the otherwise dismal message that the song’s title suggests. The smooth track receives a visual accompaniment today (Aug, 19) in the form of an animated music video. Much like the song’s release, the video is available exclusively through Tidal.
Brooklyn based animation company Cartuna produced the video, which was animated and directed by Tasmanian native Felix Colgrave. The brightly colored and playful video toys with the metaphor of the relationship between predator and prey, according to the press release, as various surrealistic animals — from a menacing-looking insect to some blinking bats — share screen time with an animated form of DJ Mustard.
