DJ Khaled‘s inbox is looking like a laundry list of #NewDealAlerts. The We the Best CEO/Snapchat master/prolific hitmaker has been a hot commodity, bagging magazine covers (see: Bloomberg Businessweek), detailing his keys to success on The Ellen Show and Jimmy Kimmel Live! and now his latest feat: striking a new deal with Epic Records.
He recently sat down (then stood up) with Hot 97 for a passionate, quintessentially Khaled interview where he counted all his blessings, shooed away “they” and detailed why his business always has to be “big.”
“I reunited with L.A. Reid. You know he’s the first person to give me an executive position, besides my own label, as president of Def Jam South. He always believed in me and gave me my first label deal almost 10 years ago,” the music veteran said about his new deal. “This is the first time that DJ Khaled and We the Best has been a free agent in 10 years. I’ve been through so many situations and I’m independent and I don’t talk about these things because I’m self-made. I just do my thing and I always win.”
Beyond flooding the airwaves with his hilariously motivating catch phrases, Khaled discussed the importance of praying every day, lining up deals with Apple and Roc Nation (he also shout outs his manager Jay Z), confirming Hov’s song with Future and making anthems with his forthcoming effort Major Key and why his Summer Jam performance will be “a movie.” He also teased filming a movie: “Just know kissing is involved.”
