
Since the top of the year, DJ Khaled has been raving bout his tenth album Grateful. Despite keeping the details “top secret,” Khaled has flooded social media with a few major keys regarding his latest effort.
Immediately after the Grammys in February, Khaled handed fans his lustrous single “Shining” featuring Jay Z and Beyonce. The Snapchat impresario then secured even more vocals from music’s biggest stars.
With his six-month-old son Asahd Khaled helping him on the musical front as an executive producer, Khaled is showing his followers #FanLuv with for his star-studded album. Here’s everything we know so far about Grateful.
Khaled Finally Has the Drake Vocals
Khaled spent weeks on social media begging for the Drake vocals to come in. In early April, Khaled received his golden ticket when he linked up with the “6 God” and secured the vocals. Last year, Drake was featured on Khaled’s Major Key album with his fiery summer anthem “For Free.”
Nicki Minaj Will Make an Appearance
Over the years, Nicki Minaj has frequently collaborated with DJ Khaled. She lent a titillating verse to the 2016 posse cut “Do You Mind,” which also went platinum. In hopes of striking gold again, Khaled revealed on Instagram that he nabbed the Pinkprint MC for his new album.
Future & Khaled Were Cooking Something Special in the Studio
Last month, Future was busy flexing cash and churning out bangers with DJ Khaled in the studio. Khaled posted a slew of pictures of the pair cranking out records for Grateful. On Major Key, the HNDRXX hitmaker featured on “I Got the Keys” and “Do You Mind.”
Nas Will Reunite With Khaled After His Standout Performance on “Nas Album Done”
In 2016, Nas left fans thirsting for a new project with DJ Khaled’s “Nas Album Done.” Though fans have still yet to receive a full-length project from Nas, Khaled is ready to give listeners another sixteen from the “One Mic” MC on Grateful.
The Elusive Rihanna Feature Has Landed
Khaled has yet another pop queen in reserve for his forthcoming album. In an interview with The Cruz Show, Khaled revealed how he has Riri’s vocals tucked away in his vault. “They saying you can’t get Rihanna?” asked Cruz. “Be ready!” shouted Khaled.
UPDATE: In June, he shared images of him with Rihanna and Bryson Tiller, and began shooting a video with the bad gal.
Collaborations With Mariah Carey & Travis Scott May Appear
In January, Khaled informed fans of possible collaborations for his new album Grateful. In a string of posts, he revealed that he had tons of hooks and verses belonging to Travis Scott stashed away in the studio. “I have 100 @travisscott hooks and verses in MY studio drive anthem alerts ! FAN LUV PLEASE KEEP THIS TOP SECRET!! I will be announcing the title of my new album soon,” he offered in one caption. He also announced an “ICON ALERT” with Mariah Carey.
UPDATE: Travis Scott could potentially land on a joint with Nas, per Khaled’s Instagram flicks.
The Star-Studded Single “I’m the One” Will Feature Justin Bieber, Quavo, Lil Wayne, & Chance the Rapper
Since last February, Khaled teased fans about his forthcoming single, “I’m the One.” At the time, he posted two pictures with the quartet on Instagram. Though fans speculated that a possible collaboration was brewing, Khaled was discrete about the details. Then, on Tuesday (April 24), Khaled posted the cover art for the long-awaited single. With his son Asahd on the cover decked out in Jordan sneakers, the star producer encouraged his fans to “be ready.”
Baby Boy Asahd Khaled Will Executive Produce
Earlier this year, Khaled named his son Asahd the album’s executive producer. With baby Asahd gracing the cover for the first single “Shining,” featuring Jay Z & Beyonce — as well as “I’m The One,” starring Chance The Rapper, Justin Bieber, Quavo and Lil Wayne, slated to be released this Friday (April 28) — Khaled explained on Jimmy Kimmel Live! his son’s role in the studio.
“He’s in the studio listening to songs with me, going over the business part of it, if the vocals are right, if the beats are right, if the energy’s right, everything — he’s a part of [it],” he said. “When he does that, those are smash hit records.” He added that when Asahd’s “not in the studio while we’re recording — most of the time he is — but if he’s not, I’ll FaceTime him and put him on the phone with an artist.”
Chance the Rapper Will Be “Very Involved”
During an interview with Billboard at The Grammys this year, Chance the Rapper revealed that his role on Grateful is “top secret.” Though he did reveal that he’ll be “very involved in the project,” he didn’t say anything else more specific. Chance will appear on DJ Khaled’s upcoming single “I’m the One.”
