DJ Cassidy realizes that life is nothing without someone to spend it with, and turns this need for companionship into his new single “Coolin’ By My Side,” premiering exclusively on Billboard today (Nov.2).
Cassidy’s “Coolin’ By My Side” features Justine Skye, and together the two create an infectiously danceable song, from its head-bobbing bassline to the warm groove of its vocals. For the song’s simpler sonic structure, Cassidy consulted his DJ roots. “I honed in on the parts of the track I’d most want to drop as a deejay, and I got rid of everything else,” Cassidy tells Billboard.

In “Coolin’ By My Side,” Skye lends her sultry voice to the song, capturing a party lifestyle that is plagued with emptiness. For Cassidy, the inspiration of the song was easy to come by.
“In all my travel, I’ve realized the jaw-dropping places I get to play around the world are simply not as fun if I don’t have someone to share them with,” Cassidy said.
With “Coolin’ By My Side” Cassidy is branching out into original music, after establishing his career DJ’ing at Barack Obama’s first inauguration and JAY-Z and Beyoncé’s wedding.
Deciding to partner to with Skye on his new song was a no-brainer for Cassidy. “We definitely bonded over the themes of travel, party and partnership,” Cassidy said. “I couldn’t be happier that she is now literally coolin’ by my side.”
