Reps for Kanye West have no comment on claims that the rapper made an emergency hospital visit while on tour in Australia.
According to various published reports, the 37-year-old was rushed to the hospital on Wednesday just hours before his final Melbourne concert.
The artist was taken to Epworth Hospital in Richmond where he had an emergency MRI at around 2pm and was discharged at about 4.30pm, according to Woman’s Day. One side of Kanye’s face was reportedly covered as he entered through the hospital’s back entrance with a security entourage.
Nurses apparently asked patients to move out of the waiting room and consulting rooms so Kanye could be treated privately. “Everyone was massively panicked,” Loraine Terry, who was at the hospital with her daughter, told the title. “And they were very nervous about making sure the area was completely clear.” Kim Kardashian, the report points out, was not with her husband.
Whatever the reason for his hospital visit, Kanye went on stage Wednesday night at Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena as scheduled. The Yeezus tour continues at Sydney’s Qantas Credit Union Arena on Friday and Saturday, before concluding Monday night at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre. When asked the nature of his ailment, a spokesperson for the tour promoter Live Nation Australasia said, “no comment.”
Kanye’s five city run of Australia has had more than its share of hiccups. The tour was originally scheduled in May, but was postponed with a statement blaming ”unexpected timing requirements to finish his highly anticipated new studio album.”
Reviews for his seven-date trek have been largely positive, and a pop-up store has opened in Melbourne’s Chapel Street to cash-in on his two dates at the 15,000 capacity Rod Laver Arena.
Kanye’s sixth studio album Yeezus made it to No. 1 in Australia last June, but it did so with a fair amount of drama. The album was promoted from 2-1 after charts-compiler ARIA admitted a “data error” had rendered the initial sales chart inaccurate, and the chart was republished.
