Dave East and the elusive Jay Electronica are teaming up for a good cause. The lyrical duo collides with Mass Appeal signee 070 Phi on the hard-hitting “No Hoodie (Nothing’ to Lose),” which premieres Thursday (Dec. 5) ahead of its wider release at midnight. The track spotlights the issue of homelessness plaguing America and arrives in benefit of Hoodies for the Homeless.
“I’m scared of the winter/ New York gets colder than cold/ F— the system, I do not want to vote/ Not to mention, I do not own a coat/ It’s freezing, my n—a/ I don’t got cash or no credit, no AmEx or Visa, my n—a/ Slept in my jeep with the heat on, my n—a/ I’m starving for real, it ain’t no secret,” East raps.
Nearly 554,000 people are homeless across the United States. In NYC alone, it’s a much more pervasive issue, with an estimated 78,000 individuals living without a home, which is the highest level seen since the Great Depression. The New York Giants have played an integral role in backing the non-profit organization to help bring tracks like this to life.
