Daniel Caesar has been keeping low. The Toronto-based singer-songwriter has been steadily working on new music since the release of his 2015 EP Pilgrim’s Paradise, only releasing a live version of “Won’t Live Here” in February. But Caesar is stepping back into the spotlight to premiere his dulcet, new song, “Get You” featuring Kali Uchis, premiering today (Oct. 20) on Billboard and Carl Chery’s #TheCosign on Apple Music’s Beats 1:
Produced by long-time collaborators Jordan Evans and Matthew Burnett, “Get You” features Caesar in awe of who he’s falling for. You almost fall into a spell when he charmingly sings, “Who would’ve thought I get you?” time and again.
“I met a girl and got very involved. She brought things and feelings out of me that I didn’t know I had. ‘Get You’ is a song of praise to a love I didn’t even feel I deserved at the time,” he tells Billboard. “Being with someone you truly adore and being present enough in the moment that the world literally slows down and you ask yourself how did I stumble into this? I’m always shooting myself in the foot, but I’m in here.”
The song is sweetened with an assist by Uchis. And if the collaboration sounds effortless, it’s because it was: “Kali is great and very sweet. There’s no ego between us so it makes for great chemistry,” he says. “We have very different backgrounds and have different world views and I think we perceive music differently because of that, but it blends well. It’s lots of fun to work with Kali. We’ve only just started.”
