Craig David always boasted he was born to do it. The British R&B singer won a lot of respect and reminded many others of his talents when video went viral last month of his mash-up of “Fill Me In” with Jack Ü’s “Where Are Ü Now”…with a rapid-fire freestyle thrown in for good measure.
The one-time U.K. Garage star has repeated his impressive lyrical burst, this time for an audience of thousands. And with Major Lazer as his sidekicks.
Jack Ü and Major Lazer co-founder Diplo was apparently so taken by David’s cover for BBC Radio he invited the artist to join Major Lazer for its show at London’s Alexandra Palace. David tweeted a clip of their live collaboration, which can be seen below.
David’s career exploded out the blocks following the release of his 2000 debut Born To Do It, which yielded the U.K. No. 1s “Fill Me In” and “7 Days,” the first of which earned him plaudits as Britain’s youngest male to write and sing a No. 1 (he was 18 years, 11 months and 10 days at the time). Born to Do It is certified platinum in the U.S., where it peaked at No. 11 on the albums chart.
The singer followed-up with 2002’s Slicker Than Your Average, which reached No. 32 on the Billboard 200. In the space of less than 18 months, David had six U.K. top 10 singles to his name.
