Chicago-based Rapper Common and political analyst Angela Rye have split, according to Page Six TV.
“We have and will always be friends,” Rye said via a statement. “He is an amazing human being, and I’m a much better person because he’s a part of my life. May we all keep loving and living.”
Rumors had been swirling that the couple, who first got together last summer, had been taking a break. Speculation was pushed further when Rye didn’t accompany Common to the Oscars, where he performed his track “Stand Up For Something.”
Even though the pair weren’t together very long, last November, Common gushed about Rye to Page Six, saying her political activism helped get him more involved. “I feel like I have a lot more work to do . . . I feel like I have to be more intelligent with the work and strategize more.” The rapper has yet to publicly comment on the breakup.
