On Monday (Sept. 3), Nike announced that they would be partnering with Colin Kaepernick for the 30th anniversary of their Just Do It campaign in a new powerful advertisement. The embattled quarterback has not appeared in an NFL game since the 2016 season and is currently in the midst of a collusion lawsuit against the league — and the hip-hop community continues to stand behind him.
“Believe in something, even if it means sacrificing everything. #JustDoIt,” the black-and-white ad reads with a stern photo of the former 49er’s face staring into the camera. The partnership for the campaign has been met with backlash on social media, as some have become so angered to the point of cutting the Nike logos off their socks or setting Nike sneakers of their own on fire. But hip-hop stars have stood behind Kaepernick amid his protest, and applauded Nike for aligning themselves with Colin’s movement once again.
A number of artists and personalities inside the rap culture have stepped up to congratulate Colin and Nike on the deal within the last 24 hours, including 2 Chainz, Quavo, Fabolous, Ludacris, and more. Check out some of the supportive messages below.
