In the past 10 days, Colin Kaepernick has made it his mission to have other celebrities match his altruism by helping him complete his $1 million pledge to serve oppressed communities throughout the country. After watching the likes of Chris Brown, Serena Williams, Steph Curry and more shell out hefty contributions, Kaepernick concluded his 10-day challenge after tapping Usher for a $10,00 donation to the H.O.M.E. (Helping Oppressed Mothers Endure) charity in Lithonia, Georgia.
“Day 10 of my #10for10! Thank you @usher for choosing H.O.M.E. for the #MillionDollarPledge,” Kap tweeted Wednesday afternoon (Jan. 31). “We’re donating $10k each to them for a total of $20k! It’s been an honor to work for the people and donate $1 mil to orgs fighting for social justice! See it all on http://kaepernick7.com.”
“This was an opportunity to do something major, and you did it,” Usher said in a video posted to Kaepernick’s Twitter account on Wednesday. “You have raised $1 million. I’m happy to be a part of the completion of that $1 million. Everyone that has done something around this is amazing. This is a collaborative effort. As a result of us helping each other, we all become stronger.”
Earlier this month, Kaepernick kicked off his #10for10 campaign to help finish the remaining $100,000 left in his pledge. He recruited several notable names to help expedite the process and match his $10,000 efforts. On Tuesday, Meek Mill joined the coalition and donated $10,000 to Young Service Inc., despite being incarcerated.
