Drake made a surprise appearance at the Grammy Awards on Sunday, where he took the stage to accept best rap song for “God’s Plan.” After having his speech cut short, Entertainment Tonight caught up with Drizzy briefly backstage.
In the short chat, the 6 God petitioned his hometown to light up the CN Tower in gold lights in celebration of his victory. “I wanna say that the mayor of Toronto needs to turn the CN Tower chrome and gold tomorrow,” he said before hitting the reporter with some Canadian slang. “Are you stupid, are you dumb?”
Well, it seems that Mayor John Tory was listening, as Toronto will honor Drake’s plan. The CN Tower Twitter account announced Monday (Feb. 11) that the iconic landmark would be lit up gold to honor all the Canadians who took home Grammys. “Tonight we’re going gold to celebrate the outstanding artists whose work makes Canada shine so brightly on the world stage,” the account wrote. “Congratulations to the nominees and winners at the 2019 Grammys!”
According to the Toronto Sun, the famed Toronto sign surrounding the ice-skating rink in front of City Hall will also be turned gold thanks to Drizzy’s bold request. When you’re Drake, you can make just about anything happen in Toronto.
