CLOCKWORKDJ is perhaps best known as Mac Miller‘s longtime touring DJ, but he is taking over MC duties on his latest track “DANCE,” available exclusively on Billboard today (Nov. 22).
“Every seven years music changes. A new sound is created,” the New York-based rapper muses. “Seven years is up. Mac and I have ushered in a new sound called ‘DANCE.'”
CLOCKWORK has been developing his own bars over the years, gaining looks from the likes of Chuck Inglish and Miller’s producing alter-ego Larry Fisherman. “DANCE” serves as another collaboration between CLOCKWORK and Miller, and it stands as their boldest, most experimental statement yet.
Over Miller’s woozy trap beat, CLOCKWORKDJ delivers a vocal attack with jocular gusto in a fittingly low-pitched style. It’s a short but effective preview of what CLOCKWORKDJ has been cooking up for his debut project Ignored, which is set to drop in early 2018. The album is executive produced by CLOCKWORKDJ and fellow Cincinnati native and acclaimed producer Hi-Tek, with additional production by Miller, Inglish, Paper Diamond and Gazi Ghost.
